Actor shares promotional video with Lionel Messi ahead of the release of Spider-Man: Brand New Day.

Tom Holland has joined forces with football superstar Lionel Messi in a promotional campaign for Marvel’s upcoming film Spider-Man: Brand New Day, generating excitement among fans ahead of the movie’s release later this month.

The British actor shared a video on Instagram on Tuesday featuring a light-hearted interaction with the Argentine football icon. The clip quickly gained traction across social media platforms as fans reacted to the unexpected collaboration between two of the world’s most recognisable figures in entertainment and sport.

In the video, Holland is seen entering a café before noticing Messi. Appearing surprised, the actor asks the footballer if he is indeed the World Cup-winning star. Messi then references Spider-Man, leading to a playful exchange between the pair.

Holland captioned the post, “Promo with the GOAT. Who’s got next?”, a nod to Messi’s reputation as one of football’s greatest players.

The promotional campaign comes as Sony Pictures ramps up marketing efforts for Spider-Man: Brand New Day, the fourth Spider-Man film starring Holland as Peter Parker. The movie is scheduled to arrive in cinemas on July 31.

Zendaya is also set to reprise her role as MJ in the latest instalment of the superhero franchise.

The film marks Holland’s first major release since confirming his marriage to longtime partner Zendaya. During a recent interview with Esquire, the actor appeared to acknowledge reports about their wedding while addressing speculation surrounding artificial intelligence-generated images that circulated online.

The couple, who first met while filming Spider-Man: Homecoming, have maintained a largely private relationship despite intense public interest. Engagement rumours intensified after Zendaya appeared at the 2025 Golden Globe Awards wearing a prominent diamond ring.

Speaking recently on The New York Times’ Modern Love podcast, Zendaya explained why she and Holland choose to keep much of their relationship out of the spotlight, while acknowledging public curiosity about their personal lives.

Meanwhile, anticipation continues to build for Spider-Man: Brand New Day, which is expected to be one of the biggest superhero releases of the year. Fans have spent months speculating about the film’s storyline, cast additions and potential connections to the wider Marvel Cinematic Universe.

The collaboration with Messi adds another high-profile promotional moment as the countdown to the film’s theatrical debut continues.
