First trailer for Not Alone introduces a space adventure blending romance, comedy and alien encounters.

Selena Gomez and Timothée Chalamet have unveiled the first trailer for Not Alone, an upcoming animated feature that pairs the two stars as unlikely romantic leads in a space-themed adventure.

The film, scheduled for release in April 2027, follows Joe, an introverted rocket mechanic voiced by Chalamet, and Fran, a talented astro-botanist voiced by Gomez. The pair work together on what is described as the world’s first plant-powered rocket before their plans are disrupted by the arrival of three stranded aliens seeking a way home.

The trailer, released on social media on Tuesday, offers audiences a first glimpse of the animated project, which combines science fiction, comedy and romance.

“There’s more life out there. Not Alone. In theatres April 2027,” Gomez and Chalamet wrote in matching posts accompanying the teaser.

According to the preview, Joe and Fran gradually develop a romantic connection while preparing the spacecraft for launch. Their budding relationship becomes increasingly complicated when extraterrestrial visitors unexpectedly enter their lives.

The alien trio – Dunk, Welly and Shirm – are voiced by British actors Rob Brydon, Diane Morgan and Jamie Demetriou, respectively. The characters appear to play a central role in the film’s comedic storyline as they seek help returning to their home planet.

The voice cast also includes Brett Goldstein, who portrays Zandro, an officer pursuing the aliens throughout the story.

Not Alone is directed by Eric Guillon, Claire Dodgson and Jonathan Del Val. Guillon is best known for work on Illumination Entertainment productions, including Despicable Me 3, Minions, The Secret Life Pets and Sing.

The project marks another major voice-acting role for Gomez, who continues to balance music and acting projects. The actress recently completed filming on the sixth season of Hulu’s hit comedy-mysteryseries Only Murders in the Building, alongside Steve Martin and Martin Short.

For Chalamet, the animated film adds to an already diverse portfolio that includes acclaimed performances in Call Me by Your Name and the blockbuster Dune franchise.

With its combination of family-friendly humour, romance and science-fiction themes, Not Alone is positioning itself as one of the notable animated releases on the 2027 cinema calendar.
