Toyota to End GR Supra Production, New Hybrid Model Coming

Supra

Toyota has officially announced that production of the fifth-generation GR Supra will end in March 2026, concluding a celebrated chapter for the legendary sports car.

First introduced in March 2019, the GR Supra was developed in collaboration with BMW, sharing its platform and powertrain technology with the BMW Z4, which is also nearing the end of its production run.

The fifth-generation GR Supra began production in March 2019 at Magna Steyr’s facility in Austria and made its global debut as part of Toyota’s 2020 model year lineup. In November 2024, Toyota introduced the “Final Edition” variant, commemorating the model’s legacy. By April 2025, the automaker confirmed the 2026 model year as the last version of the current generation, with the final GR Supra expected to roll off the production line in March 2026.

End of an Era, Start of a New One

Toyota’s decision to discontinue the current Supra comes amid tighter global emissions regulations and rising development costs. The end of its BMW partnership — which provided shared engineering and assembly resources — also contributed to the decision.

Despite the end of the A90/A91 Supra era, Toyota has confirmed that the Supra nameplate will continue. Development of the sixth-generation GR Supra is already underway, with an expected launch in 2027. The next iteration could introduce hybrid or fully electric powertrains, aligning with Toyota’s broader electrification goals.

Final Edition: A Collector’s Dream

Before production ends, Toyota will offer a limited “Final Edition” GR Supra, featuring exclusive styling cues, unique badging, and upgraded performance components. These special models will likely become highly collectible, marking the last opportunity to own a brand-new fifth-generation Supra.

The Future of Supra

The next-generation Supra aims to combine modern performance technology with the car’s iconic sports heritage. While official details remain under wraps, enthusiasts can expect a fresh design, advanced hybrid performance, and improved driving dynamics.

With production ending in 2026 and a new chapter set for 2027, Toyota’s GR Supra continues to evolve — embracing innovation while honoring its legendary racing DNA
