Supermodel says fans have exaggerated her tense judging exchange with Roach and questions surrounding her departure from the show

Tyra Banks has addressed speculation surrounding her much-discussed exchange with fashion stylist Law Roach during the latest season of Project Runway, insisting there is no serious feud between them.

The 52-year-old supermodel appeared as a recurring guest judge during Season 22 of the Freeform fashion competition, which aired over the summer.

One of Banks’ appearances attracted attention after she and fellow judge Law Roach clashed during a tense judging session.

In the fifth episode, Banks challenged Roach’s interpretation of the week’s challenge. When she told him, “That’s not the challenge,” Roach responded that she was “overstepping”.

Banks then pushed back, telling him that he was the one “overstepping” and talking over the other judges.

The exchange appeared to continue into the following episode, when Roach admitted that, despite his reluctance, he agreed with Banks.

Banks did not return to the programme after her appearances, prompting some viewers to speculate that the disagreement had created tension between the two.

However, speaking to Entertainment Weekly, Banks dismissed the idea that the exchange reflected an ongoing feud.

“That is so … ,” she said, suggesting that audiences had turned a brief disagreement into something much larger than it was.

When asked about her current relationship with Roach, Banks appeared amused by the speculation surrounding their on-screen interaction.

She joked about whether she should simply allow the “Banks-Law, Law-Banks” narrative to continue, adding that she found the idea that the pair were “beefing” confusing.

Banks also addressed speculation about why she appeared in fewer episodes than some viewers had expected.

She pointed out that audiences did not know the terms of her contract, rejecting assumptions that she had been expected to appear in a specific number of episodes.

The model further observed that public speculation can quickly evolve into accepted fact, with people repeatedly discussing a narrative until it begins to be treated as reality.

Banks’ comments appear to put the controversy into perspective, suggesting that the dramatic interpretation of her exchange with Roach was driven more by fan speculation than by an actual personal dispute.
