UAE Unveils Dh100 Banknote Ahead of Eid ul Fitr

The Central Bank of the UAE (CBUAE) has introduced a newly designed Dh100 polymer banknote, incorporating advanced security features and a design that highlights the UAE’s rich heritage and ambitious future.

Announced on Monday, just in time for the Eid ul Fitr celebrations, the new Dh100 banknote will enter circulation starting March 24. It will be used alongside the existing Dh100 notes, ensuring a smooth transition for the public and businesses.

The issuance is part of the Third Issuance of the National Currency Project, reflecting the UAE’s commitment to financial modernization. The front of the new Dh100 note showcases the iconic Um Al Quwain National Fort, while the reverse side features the Port of Fujairah and the Etihad Rail, symbolizing the nation’s economic and infrastructural advancements. The note retains the classic red color of the Dh100 denomination, making it easily recognizable.

Khaled Mohamed Balama, Governor of the CBUAE, emphasized the significance of this launch, stating, “The new Dh100 banknote aligns with our leadership’s vision for a sustainable future by integrating modern innovations that support Net Zero initiatives and reinforce the UAE’s financial standing.”

He added, “This Dh100 note embodies the UAE’s aspirations for progress and prosperity while paying tribute to its historical and cultural landmarks. We are delighted to release this special edition in celebration of Eid ul Fitr.”

Designed with sustainability in mind, the Dh100 banknote is made of polymer, a material that is more durable and environmentally friendly than traditional paper notes. The polymer composition extends the lifespan of the banknote by more than double, reducing waste and environmental impact.

Additionally, the new Dh100 note features Braille symbols to assist visually impaired individuals in identifying its value, reinforcing the UAE’s commitment to inclusivity in financial transactions.

Banks and exchange houses across the UAE have been instructed to upgrade their ATMs and cash-handling machines to accommodate the latest Dh100 note.

CBUAE’s commitment to excellence has been recognized globally, with its Dh500 and Dh1,000 polymer notes previously winning the ‘Best New Banknote’ award at the High-Security Printing EMEA conferences in 2023 and 2025. The introduction of the new Dh100 note further cements the UAE’s position as a leader in financial innovation.
