Unisame criticizes agent dominance at Sindh taxation department

UNISAME

Karachi, August 12, 2025 – The Union of Small and Medium Enterprises (Unisame) has voiced strong concerns over the growing dominance of agents and brokers at the Sindh Excise and Taxation Department, which is causing serious inconvenience to motor vehicle owners.

According to Unisame, the situation has become particularly difficult for SME vehicle owners who rely on efficient public services. Delays in replacing number plates and issuing new vehicle ownership cards—intended to replace outdated registration books—have disrupted business operations and personal mobility.

Zulfikar Thaver, President of Unisame, lamented that the Excise and Taxation office has been overwhelmed by brokers who demand exorbitant sums for completing routine processes. He highlighted that several members who applied online over six months ago, paying all required fees, have yet to receive even a notification about their number plates being ready.

Furthermore, Unisame reported that no online payment option currently exists for the new vehicle ownership cards, forcing applicants to navigate inefficient in-person processes.

The organization urged the Sindh Excise and Taxation Minister to take immediate corrective measures, streamline the system, and eliminate the role of unauthorized agents. Unisame emphasized that an efficient, transparent, and fully functional online mechanism—free from interference—would restore public trust and ensure fair treatment for all vehicle owners.

By addressing these issues promptly, the department can improve service delivery, reduce corruption risks, and safeguard the integrity of the systems designed to benefit citizens.
