BYD is gearing up to launch the updated Atto 3 electric SUV in China with a major power boost and improved charging technology.
The 2026 model, recently filed for domestic sales approval, will now generate an impressive 230 kW (308 hp)—an increase of 107 hp over the previous version.
This powertrain upgrade is sourced from the BYD Seal EV sedan, indicating that the new Atto 3 could feature an 800V high-voltage system capable of supporting much faster DC charging speeds.
The BYD Atto 3, originally introduced in February 2022 under the name Yuan Plus, has been one of BYD’s most successful models, reaching over 1 million global sales across 110 countries.
Despite this success, the model had started to fall behind competitors in terms of performance and charging efficiency.
The latest update aims to address these issues, ensuring the Atto 3 remains a strong contender in the competitive EV market.
In March 2025, BYD introduced minor updates focusing on ADAS (Advanced Driver Assistance System) improvements, but these changes didn’t impact its performance.
The new 2026 version, however, centers on enhancing its powertrain and efficiency, giving the compact electric SUV a much-needed performance upgrade.
Design and Specifications
The refreshed Atto 3 continues to share its exterior styling with the 2025 model, featuring a trapezoidal front grille, smoked LED headlights, and black D-pillars that highlight its sporty design. The SUV now rides on new 18-inch alloy wheels, giving it a more dynamic stance.
The updated model measures 4,455 mm in length, 1,875 mm in width, and 1,615 mm in height, with a 2,720 mm wheelbase—dimensions identical to the previous model.
However, the 2026 Atto 3 is noticeably heavier, with a curb weight of 1,880 kg and a gross weight of 2,410 kg, compared to the outgoing model’s 1,625–1,690 kg.
The added weight suggests a larger battery pack, though BYD has yet to reveal its capacity.
Under the hood, the updated Atto 3 uses a FinDreams-manufactured battery pack powering the TZ200XYC permanent magnet motor, producing 230 kW (308 hp).
The same electric motor is also used in BYD’s Denza N7 and Seal EV, both of which support 150 kW DC fast charging—nearly double the previous Atto 3’s charging capacity.
While BYD hasn’t disclosed an official launch date, industry sources expect the 2026 BYD Atto 3 to hit the Chinese market later this year, further strengthening the brand’s foothold in the fast-growing EV segment.
