The United States has issued a fresh advisory for its citizens regarding travel to Pakistan, urging them to reconsider their plans due to concerns over terrorism and the potential for armed conflict.
The advisory highlights security risks in various regions, warning that the situation remains unpredictable.
According to media reports, the United States Department of State has emphasized that violent extremist groups continue to plot attacks across Pakistan, particularly in Balochistan and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. The advisory states that terrorists may strike without warning, targeting transportation hubs, markets, shopping malls, military installations, airports, universities, tourist attractions, schools, hospitals, places of worship, and government facilities.
The advisory further prohibits U.S. government personnel on assignment in Pakistan from attending most large gatherings due to security concerns. It also underscores that while security infrastructure in major cities, particularly Islamabad, is more robust, the overall environment remains volatile, and the situation can change suddenly.
The State Department has repeatedly cautioned American citizens about security risks when planning travel to Pakistan, as the country has witnessed a surge in militant activities in recent months. Security experts advise travelers to remain vigilant and avoid unnecessary movement in high-risk areas.
Meanwhile, sources revealed to Reuters that a new travel ban being considered by the U.S. government could impact individuals from Pakistan and Afghanistan. The ban, reportedly under review, aims to bar entry for people from specific countries based on security and vetting concerns.
There are approximately 200,000 Afghans who have been approved for U.S. resettlement or have pending refugee and Special Immigrant Visa (SIV) applications. However, nearly 20,000 Afghans remain stranded in Pakistan, along with refugees from more than 90 other countries. The backlog has worsened since a 90-day freeze was imposed on refugee admissions and foreign aid funding.
As the security landscape in Pakistan remains uncertain, the travel advisory serves as a critical reminder for foreign nationals to exercise caution. Travelers are advised to stay informed about evolving security conditions and adhere to safety guidelines issued by their respective governments.
