Verizon to charge $10 monthly for Apple’s iPhone Handoff feature

The service will let users share one phone number between two iPhones, but Verizon’s fee is twice T-Mobile’s monthly charge.

Verizon will charge subscribers $10 per month to use Apple’s new iPhone Handoff feature, which allows users to share one phone number between two iPhones running iOS 27.

The feature is designed to let customers switch their active cellular service between compatible devices without changing SIM cards. For example, users could carry a compact iPhone Duo for everyday use and switch to an iPhone 19 Pro for work while retaining the same phone number.

Verizon’s subscription will cost $120 annually, making it more expensive than T-Mobile’s competing service, which is priced at $5 per month. AT&T has not announced plans to offer the dual-device feature.

How iPhone Handoff works

Apple’s Handoff feature is intended to make it easier for users who own multiple iPhones to move their cellular service between devices.

Verizon says subscribers will have access to its full 5G network on both phones. However, only one device can have active cellular service at a time, meaning users cannot operate both iPhones simultaneously on the shared number for cellular connectivity.

The service could appeal to customers who prefer different phones for different situations but do not want to maintain separate mobile numbers or repeatedly move their cellular connection manually.

Requirements for using the feature

To set up iPhone Handoff, both devices must run iOS 27, be signed in to the same Apple Account and use eSIM activation.

Users should also be aware that deleting an eSIM does not automatically cancel the monthly subscription. Customers must contact their carrier or follow its cancellation process to stop the recurring charge.

Verizon has yet to confirm launch date

Verizon announced the $10 monthly price when it opened pre-orders for Apple’s new iPhone Duo. However, the carrier described the feature as “coming soon” without providing a specific launch date.

The service’s availability and final implementation details therefore remain subject to further announcements.

With T-Mobile offering a lower monthly price, Verizon customers will need to weigh the convenience of switching cellular service between two iPhones against the additional cost. AT&T’s position remains unclear as the feature prepares to roll out.
