Very hot weather conditions to grip Punjab on Eid day

LAHORE – Brace yourselves for a fiery Eid-ul-Adha as very hot weather is set to scorch most districts of Punjab on Saturday, June 7, 2025 — the first day of the festive holiday.

The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has issued a red-hot alert, warning of very hot and bone-dry conditions gripping the heartland of Pakistan.

According to the PMD, the entire province of Punjab will remain under the spell of relentless heat. The blazing sun will show no mercy as daytime temperatures soar 5 to 7°C above the seasonal average across central and upper Punjab, Islamabad, and adjoining regions. In southern Punjab, conditions will be similarly brutal, with temperatures expected to remain 4 to 6°C higher than normal through the Eid holidays — from June 7 to June 12.

The heatwave is not confined to daytime alone. Even Friday night (June 6) will bring no relief, as hot and dry weather continues to blanket the region. Dust-raising winds and gusty breezes are also expected in the plains of Punjab, adding to the discomfort for millions preparing for Eid festivities.

This punishing spell is being driven by continental air and a stubborn high-pressure system parked over the region’s upper atmosphere — a combination that meteorologists say will persist for at least the next 4 to 5 days. The entire country, from Sindh to Balochistan, will feel the heat, but the plains of Punjab are forecast to be among the most severely affected.

In the past 24 hours, much of Pakistan endured hot, dry, and very hot weather, with sizzling highs recorded in Sibbi (48°C), Dadu (47°C), and Shaheed Benazirabad (46°C). Similar inferno-like conditions are expected to continue through the Eid weekend.

Citizens are advised to limit outdoor activities, stay hydrated, and take all necessary precautions, as this very hot spell could pose serious health risks, especially during the peak afternoon hours in Punjab.
