Islamabad, May 20, 2025 – Most districts of Punjab remain under the firm grip of intense heat, with no immediate relief expected in the coming days, according to the updated weather advisory issued by the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD).
The weather forecast for Wednesday, May 21, 2025, indicates that very hot and dry weather will continue to dominate across the majority of districts in Punjab. Central and southern regions of the province are likely to experience gusty winds during the day due to the prevailing high temperatures. Tuesday night is also expected to remain hot and dry in most districts of the province.
At the national level, the PMD has warned of a widespread heatwave, which is expected to persist for the next four days. According to the advisory, day temperatures are likely to remain 4°C to 6°C above normal in the southern half of the country, including southern Punjab, Sindh, and Balochistan. Meanwhile, temperatures in the upper half—including central and northern Punjab, Islamabad, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Kashmir, and Gilgit-Baltistan—are expected to rise by 5°C to 7°C above seasonal norms.
Meteorologists attribute the ongoing spell of scorching weather to the presence of continental air over most regions and a high-pressure system at upper atmospheric levels, particularly over central and southern parts of the country. This high-pressure system is anticipated to remain in place for the next several days, prolonging the current weather conditions.
For Tuesday and Wednesday, the PMD has forecast that the majority of the country, including Punjab, will continue to face mainly hot and dry weather, with very hot weather likely in the plains during daytime.
Over the past 24 hours, hot and dry weather persisted in most areas, with extreme temperatures recorded in several locations. Sibbi topped the list at 48°C, followed closely by Rahim Yar Khan, Dadu, Bhakkar, D.G. Khan, and Jacobabad at 47°C. Temperatures in Rohri, Khairpur, Shaheed Benazirabad, and Larkana reached 46°C, highlighting the intensity of the ongoing heatwave.
Residents of Punjab districts are advised to take precautionary measures against heat-related illnesses, stay hydrated, and avoid unnecessary outdoor exposure during peak heat hours.
