Jack Betts, widely recognized by his stage name Hunt Powers, has passed away at the age of 96. The veteran actor, known for his role as Henry Balkan in the 2002 film Spider-Man, died peacefully in his sleep on Thursday, June 19, at his home in Los Osos, California.

His nephew, Dean Sullivan, confirmed the news in an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, sharing that Betts died of natural causes. “He passed away in his sleep,” Sullivan told the outlet.

Jack Betts led a remarkable life both on and off screen. He shared a close bond with Everybody Loves Raymond star Doris Roberts and lived with her before her passing in 2016. His longstanding presence in the entertainment industry earned him respect and admiration across generations of actors.

The Beverly Hills Playhouse, where Betts mentored and inspired countless performers, also paid tribute to the late star on Instagram. “Our beloved Jack Betts passed away peacefully at home. It is a sad day for the BHP as we have enjoyed his presence for so many years,” the tribute read.

“There are actors who credit him with their not giving up because of his encouragement. We were so fortunate to have enjoyed his great spirit, passion, and true dedication to the work.”

Over his expansive career, Betts displayed remarkable versatility. In addition to his film appearances, he made memorable guest spots in iconic television series such as Seinfeld, Frasier, Friends, and Everybody Loves Raymond. He also left a lasting impression on Broadway audiences with his portrayal of Dracula.

According to IMDb, Betts continued working well into his later years, taking roles in series like My Name Is Earl, Recovery Road, and most recently Good Trouble in 2019.
