Victoria Beckham has finally opened up about why she rarely smiles in public — a mystery that fans have debated for decades. In her newly released three-part Netflix docuseries Victoria Beckham, the fashion designer and former Spice Girls star revealed that her famously stoic expression isn’t due to unhappiness, but rather a matter of camera angles and confidence.
Victoria, 51, explained that her husband, David Beckham, has always stood to her left on red carpets, which inadvertently influenced how she posed. “I’ve looked miserable for all these years because when we stand on the red carpet, this guy has always gone on the left,” she joked, referencing David. She further clarified, “I didn’t realize that when I smile, I smile from the left — if I smile from the right, I look unwell. So I’m smiling on the inside, but no one ever sees it.”
The Netflix series delves deeper into Victoria’s life after the Spice Girls disbanded. She reflected on the drastic change from global pop stardom to domestic life in Manchester, saying, “It was so extreme — one minute I’m spreading the word of girl power, and the next I’m a wife in a flat far from my family. I found that transition really difficult.”
Victoria added that her serious expression has become her “armour” in public. “The minute I see a camera, I change — the barrier goes up,” she said.
Victoria Beckham is now streaming on Netflix, offering fans an intimate glimpse into Victoria’s world beyond the red carpet.
