Vivo has officially launched the X Fold5 in China, showcasing a refined foldable phone with powerful upgrades in durability, battery life, and display quality.
Building on the success of its predecessor, the X Fold3 Pro, the latest model is expected to reach more global markets soon.
The vivo X Fold5 retains its predecessor’s screen sizes — a 6.53-inch cover display and an 8.03-inch inner display. However, the inner screen now features a Zeiss Master Color panel and second-generation Armor Glass, enhancing both visuals and durability.
Design-wise, the X Fold5 has become significantly slimmer and lighter. The Titanium variant measures just 9.2mm when folded and 4.3mm when unfolded, weighing 217g. The White and Green Pine versions are slightly heavier at 226g. The hinge is built from high-strength steel and carbon fiber, optimizing strength without compromising portability.
In a historic leap for foldables, the X Fold5 boasts the highest protection rating in the segment — IPX8 for submersion, IPX9+ for water jets, and IP5X for dust resistance. It also operates in extreme temperatures as low as -20°C.
Another headline feature is its massive 6,000mAh battery, split between two advanced Si/C cells. This is the largest battery seen in a foldable device to date. vivo complements it with 80W wired and 40W wireless fast charging, ensuring minimal downtime.
The inner display is a 120Hz LTPO OLED with a peak brightness of 4,500 nits and a resolution of 2,480 x 2,200 pixels. Camera-wise, the device is equipped with three 50MP rear sensors: a Sony IMX921 main shooter with OIS, a 3x periscope telephoto, and a wide-angle lens — all enhanced by Zeiss optics.
Under the hood, it runs on the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3, paired with up to 16GB RAM and 1TB of UFS 4.1 storage. Connectivity options include 5G, Wi-Fi 7, Bluetooth 5.4, NFC, and USB-C with DisplayPort.
Starting at CNY 7,000 (around $975), the vivo X Fold5 offers a competitive price in the foldable market. Pre-orders are live in China, with sales beginning July 2.
