vivo has officially launched its latest Y-series smartphone, the vivo Y500, in China. Known for delivering reliable midrange devices, the Y-series has consistently been among vivo’s best-sellers, and the new Y500 takes things up a notch with impressive upgrades in performance, durability, and battery life.

The standout feature of the vivo Y500 is its massive 8,200mAh silicon-carbon battery, offering an energy density of 847Wh/L. According to vivo, this powerhouse delivers up to 18.4 hours of continuous usage on a single charge.

To complement this, the device supports 90W fast wired charging with a 24-level protection system against overheating, high voltage, and current fluctuations, ensuring safe and efficient power management.

Durability is another area where the Y500 excels. The device carries IP68 and IP69 water and dust resistance certifications, making it capable of surviving 1.5-meter submersion for over 24 hours and withstanding high-pressure water jets. It is also designed to endure extreme temperatures of up to 80°C. vivo has added a 360-degree drop cushioning design, internal shock absorbers, and Diamond Shield glass protection to safeguard its 6.77-inch FHD+ AMOLED display with a smooth 120Hz refresh rate.

Under the hood, the vivo Y500 is powered by the MediaTek Dimensity 7300 chipset, bringing efficient performance to daily multitasking and gaming. On the camera front, the phone features a 50MP main sensor with f/1.8 aperture and a 2MP depth sensor, while selfies and video calls are handled by an 8MP front camera housed in a punch-hole cutout.

The Y500 runs on OriginOS 5 based on Android 15 out of the box. Buyers will have three stylish color options to choose from: Glacier Blue, Dragon Crystal Powder, and Black. Pricing starts at CNY 1,399 ($196) for the 8GB/128GB model, while the top-tier 12GB/512GB variant is set at CNY 1,999 ($280).

Open sales for the vivo Y500 in China begin on September 5, 2025. However, vivo has yet to confirm whether the device will be released in international markets.
