Visakhapatnam, October 12, 2025 – Australia pulled off a sensational record chase to defeat India by three wickets in the Women’s Cricket World Cup (WCWC) 2025, cementing their status as the most dominant force in world cricket.

Batting first, India women posted a mammoth total of 330 runs, powered by a magnificent 155-run opening stand between Smriti Mandhana and Pratika Rawal. However, Australia, known for their fearless approach, responded with a breathtaking chase that will be remembered as one of the greatest in tournament history.

Alyssa Healy, the captain of Australia, led from the front with a blistering 142 off 107 balls – the highest score of this year’s competition. She was named Player of the Match for her outstanding performance. Healy and Phoebe Litchfield gave Australia a flying start, laying the foundation for a successful pursuit. Later, Ellyse Perry’s gritty return to the crease after cramps and Kim Garth’s calm support ensured Australia crossed the finish line with balls to spare.

Earlier, Annabel Sutherland shone with the ball, claiming a superb five-wicket haul that helped restrict India from reaching an even bigger total. Despite Mandhana, Ghosh, and Rodrigues showing fine form, India faltered in the final overs, losing six wickets for just 36 runs.

India’s captain, Harmanpreet Kaur, admitted that the team fell short by 30–40 runs and praised her openers for their consistency throughout the year. She remained optimistic about bouncing back in the next match.

With this victory, Australia have not only secured two vital points but also climbed to the top of the WCWC 2025 standings. Their remarkable run-chase reinforced why Australia are the benchmark in women’s cricket. They will next face Bangladesh in Visakhapatnam on October 16, while India will look to regroup against England in Indore on October 19.
