Colombo, October 2, 2025 – Pakistan Women endured a disappointing batting display in the ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup (WCWC) 2025, crumbling to just 129 runs against Bangladesh in their third group-stage clash.
The innings folded inside 38.3 overs, exposing Pakistan’s fragile middle order under pressure.
The opening exchanges set the tone when 20-year-old pace sensation Marufa Akter dismissed two top-order batters in her very first over, putting Bangladesh firmly in control. Although Muneeba Ali and Rameen Shamim attempted to rebuild with a steady 42-run stand, their resistance was cut short by Nahida Akter’s inspired spell. Nahida, the star of the attack, removed both batters in quick succession and went on to dominate the innings with her accurate line and length.
Debutant Rabeya Khan added further misery for Pakistan, bowling two maiden overs and claiming a crucial wicket. As the overs progressed, the pitch began to crack, offering extra turn to the Bangladesh spinners who never allowed Pakistan’s batters to settle. Despite brief partnerships, none of the players managed to anchor the innings, leaving skipper Fatima Sana visibly disappointed with her team’s performance.
Reflecting on the performance, Nahida Akter praised her bowlers and credited their success to sticking with plans tailored to the pitch conditions. She also expressed optimism about Bangladesh’s ability to comfortably chase the modest target, adding that discipline with the bat would be crucial.
Now the spotlight shifts to Pakistan’s bowling attack, which faces the daunting task of defending just 129. With Bangladesh Women poised for the chase, the contest could still spring surprises if Pakistan’s bowlers exploit the turning surface effectively. However, at the halfway stage, Bangladesh clearly hold the upper hand and look determined to secure another key victory in the tournament.
