Weather Alert: Sindh prepares for heavy rainfall on Sunday

Pakistan Weather

Islamabad, September 6, 2025 – The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has issued a weather advisory warning of heavy rainfall across Sindh on Sunday, September 7, 2025.

According to the forecast, the wet spell may persist from September 7 to September 9, raising the risk of urban flooding in several low-lying areas of Mirpurkhas, Shaheed Benazirabad, Tharparkar, Khairpur, Sukkur, Larkana, Thatta, Badin, Sajawal, Hyderabad, and Karachi.

The PMD cautioned that the expected rainfall may worsen conditions in flood-affected areas of Punjab, while flash flooding could occur in hill torrents of Dera Ghazi Khan and adjoining regions of eastern and southern Balochistan. Landslides are also a possibility in the hilly terrains of upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Murree, Galliyat, and Kashmir, potentially disrupting transport and communication.

Authorities have warned that heavy rainfall, windstorms, and lightning could damage weak infrastructure, including Kacha houses, electric poles, billboards, vehicles, and solar panels. Citizens, particularly travelers and tourists, have been advised to remain cautious, avoid unnecessary movement in vulnerable areas, and stay informed through official weather updates.

Synoptic Situation

A low-pressure system currently lies over Rajasthan, expected to move westward in the next 24 hours. Strong monsoon currents are penetrating Sindh and eastern Punjab, which are likely to intensify further, increasing the chance of widespread rainfall.

Weather Outlook

• Saturday: Mostly hot and dry conditions are expected across the country. However, southeastern and central Sindh, northeastern Punjab, upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Gilgit-Baltistan, and Kashmir may experience partly cloudy weather with rain-wind/thundershowers in the afternoon.

• Sunday: Rain-wind/thundershowers are predicted in Sindh and southern Punjab, with heavy falls in certain districts of Sindh. Meanwhile, northeastern Punjab, upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Gilgit-Baltistan, and Kashmir may also receive scattered showers.
