Islamabad, January 12, 2026 – The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has warned of intensifying cold conditions in Islamabad, with frost likely to occur during the next 24 hours, particularly in the early morning hours.

According to the latest weather advisory issued by the PMD, cold and partly cloudy conditions are expected to prevail over Islamabad and its surrounding areas on Monday. On Tuesday, the weather is forecast to remain cold and dry, while frost formation is likely during the morning, raising concerns for commuters, farmers, and residents in exposed areas.

At the national level, the PMD said that continental air is dominating most parts of the country, while a shallow westerly wave is affecting the upper regions, influencing weather patterns across northern Pakistan.

For Monday, mainly cold and dry weather is expected across most parts of the country, with very cold conditions in hilly areas. However, partly cloudy skies are likely in upper regions, where light rain or snowfall may occur in Gilgit-Baltistan, upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Kashmir, and adjoining areas. Meanwhile, moderate to dense fog is expected to persist over Punjab, upper Sindh, and the plains of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, potentially affecting road and air travel.

On Tuesday, similar weather conditions are forecast nationwide, with frost likely at isolated locations in the Potohar region and Kashmir during morning hours. Fog is also expected to continue in several low-lying areas.

During the past 24 hours, cold and dry weather dominated most regions, while very low temperatures were recorded in northern areas, including Skardu (-13°C), Leh and Astore (-11°C), Gupis (-9°C), and Gilgit (-8°C), highlighting the severity of the ongoing cold spell.
