Islamabad, February 6, 2026 — The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) on Friday issued a weather update for Islamabad, forecasting gusty cold winds and chilly conditions in the federal capital on Saturday, February 7, 2026.
According to the PMD, cold and dry weather is expected to prevail in Islamabad and surrounding areas, with gusty cold winds likely during the daytime, making conditions feel significantly colder. On Friday, the capital is experiencing cold weather with partly cloudy skies and a 40% chance of light rain accompanied by wind and thunderstorms during the afternoon, which may further enhance the chill factor.
The synoptic situation indicates that a shallow westerly wave is currently affecting the upper parts of the country, while continental air continues to dominate most other regions. This system is contributing to the drop in temperatures and sporadic precipitation in northern areas.
For Friday, the PMD has forecast mainly cold and dry conditions across most parts of the country, with very cold temperatures in hilly regions during the night and early morning hours. Partly cloudy to cloudy weather with rain and light snowfall is expected in Gilgit-Baltistan, upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Kashmir, and adjoining hilly areas.
On Saturday, cold and dry weather is likely to persist nationwide, while very cold conditions will continue in the northern and mountainous regions during morning and nighttime.
During the past 24 hours, cold and dry weather dominated most areas, while light rainfall was recorded at isolated locations in upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and northern Balochistan. The maximum rainfall was noted in Parachinar (2 mm) and Dir (1 mm). The lowest recorded minimum temperatures included Leh at -12°C, Astore at -8°C, and Kalam and Skardu at -4°C.
Residents, particularly in northern and hilly regions, are advised to take necessary precautions against cold weather and stay updated with official forecasts.
