Islamabad, March 18, 2025 – Light rains accompanied by gusty winds are expected to hit various parts of central Punjab, including Lahore, on Tuesday night and Wednesday, according to the latest forecast issued by the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD).
The weather system is likely to bring temporary relief from dry conditions, while also adding moisture to the atmosphere in affected areas.
Meteorologists indicate that a shallow westerly trough is expected to enter the upper regions of the country by Tuesday night. Currently, continental air prevails over most parts of Pakistan. Under these atmospheric conditions, the weather in Punjab is predicted to remain partly cloudy, with intermittent light rains occurring in select districts.
The PMD forecast highlights that light rains and gusty winds may be observed in several key cities, including Lahore, Rawalpindi, Attock, Chakwal, Mianwali, Sargodha, Bhakkar, Khushab, Sheikhupura, and Faisalabad. Additionally, popular tourist destinations such as Murree and Galliyat are also likely to receive light showers, making the weather cooler in those regions.
For Lahore, temperatures are expected to hover between 15°C and 17°C on Wednesday, while a slight increase is forecast for Thursday, with minimum temperatures ranging between 16°C and 18°C. These rain showers, though light in intensity, are expected to provide a brief respite from the prevailing dry spell that has dominated Punjab in recent days.
During the past 24 hours, most parts of Punjab, including Lahore, experienced dry conditions. However, with the arrival of this weak weather system, there is an expectation of light precipitation in scattered areas, adding slight moisture to the atmosphere.
Murree recorded the lowest temperature in Punjab on Monday night, where the mercury dropped to 3°C. Meanwhile, Lahore’s minimum temperature stood at 16°C, with relative humidity recorded at 29% in the evening. In contrast, Murree’s relative humidity was significantly higher, reaching 51%.
The PMD advises residents of Punjab, particularly in areas expecting light rains, to stay updated with weather forecasts, as intermittent rain showers and gusty winds may cause minor disruptions. Authorities also recommend travelers in Murree and surrounding hilly areas to exercise caution due to potentially slippery road conditions caused by the expected rains.
