Islamabad, January 1, 2026 – The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has forecast a gradual drop in temperatures in Karachi over the next three days, signaling colder weather for the coastal city.
According to the PMD, temperatures in Karachi are expected to decline steadily, while cold and dry conditions will prevail across most parts of the country. The department has also issued weather alerts for snowfall, fog, and potential landslides in several regions.
Snowfall and Travel Advisory
The PMD warned that snowfall may lead to road closures and slippery conditions in mountainous areas, including Naran, Kaghan, Dir, Swat, Kohistan, Mansehra, Abbottabad, Shangla, Astore, Hunza, Skardu, Murree, Galliyat, Neelum Valley, Bagh, Poonch, and Haveli.
There is also a risk of landslides and avalanches in hilly areas of upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Gilgit-Baltistan, and Azad Kashmir during the same period.
Fog Alert
Dense fog is likely over plain areas of the country, particularly during morning and night hours, affecting parts of Punjab, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, and upper Sindh.
Synoptic Situation
A westerly weather system is currently affecting western and upper regions of Pakistan and is expected to persist over upper areas during the next 12 hours.

Thursday:
Cold and dry weather is expected in most parts of the country. However, light to moderate rain with snowfall over hills is likely at isolated places in upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Gilgit-Baltistan, Kashmir, the Pothohar region, northeast Punjab, and Islamabad.
Friday:
Cold and dry conditions will continue across most plains, with persistent fog during morning and night hours. Very cold weather is expected in Gilgit-Baltistan, Kashmir, upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, and northern Balochistan.
Past 24-Hour Weather
During the past 24 hours, rain and wind-thunderstorms, along with snowfall over hilly areas, were recorded in Sindh, Punjab, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Balochistan, Gilgit-Baltistan, and Kashmir.
Significant rainfall (mm) included Chhor (34), Upper Dir (28), Lower Dir (27), Cherat (25), Islamabad Saidpur (21), Rawalpindi Shamsabad (18), and Murree (12).
Snowfall (in inches) was recorded at Malam Jabba (14), Kalam (4), Murree (4), and Ziarat (2).
Lowest Recorded Temperatures
The lowest minimum temperatures recorded were Leh (-7°C), Kalat (-5°C), Malam Jabba (-3°C), and Gupis (-2°C).
The PMD has advised citizens, especially travelers and residents of mountainous regions, to exercise caution and stay updated with the latest weather advisories.
