Islamabad, February 5, 2026 — The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has forecast rain for Islamabad on Friday, February 6, 2026, as a shallow westerly weather system is expected to affect upper parts of the country.

According to the PMD, cold weather will persist in Islamabad and surrounding areas on Friday, while partly cloudy conditions with light rain, wind, and isolated thunderstorms may develop during the afternoon hours. Residents have been advised to remain cautious, particularly during brief spells of rainfall and gusty winds.

For Thursday, the PMD predicted cold and dry weather in Islamabad, with partly cloudy skies likely later in the day. Cold winds are also expected during daytime, adding to the winter chill in the federal capital.

Synoptic situation

The PMD reported that a shallow westerly wave is currently present over western parts of the country and is likely to move toward upper regions from tonight. Meanwhile, continental air continues to prevail over most other areas of Pakistan, maintaining dry and cold conditions.

Nationwide forecast

On Friday, mainly cold and dry weather is expected across most parts of the country, while very cold conditions will prevail in hilly areas during night and morning hours. However, partly cloudy to cloudy weather with rain or light snowfall is likely at isolated locations in Gilgit-Baltistan, Kashmir, upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, and northern Balochistan.

A similar weather pattern is expected on Thursday, with light rain or snowfall possible in isolated upper regions.

Past 24-hour weather

Cold and dry weather dominated most parts of the country over the past 24 hours, while upper hilly areas experienced severe cold. The lowest minimum temperatures recorded included Leh (-12°C), Astore (-8°C), Kalam, Skardu (-5°C), Malamjabba (-5°C), and Gupis (-5°C).
