Weather Update: Rains and Strong Winds Sweep Punjab

Pakistan Weather

Islamabad, February 24, 2025 – The province of Punjab is experiencing a spell of rain and strong winds, with similar weather conditions expected to persist in the coming days.

The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has forecasted continuous wet weather across Punjab from February 25 to March 1, bringing much-needed rain and cooler temperatures to the region. Additionally, hilly areas such as Murree and Galyat are likely to witness a mix of snow and rainfall.

According to the PMD, several districts in Punjab will see thunderstorms accompanied by heavy rain and gusty winds this evening. The weather pattern affecting Punjab is part of a larger system that has also resulted in cloudy skies over most areas of Balochistan.

Meanwhile, rain mixed with thunder and snowfall in the mountains is expected to impact areas such as Quetta, Ziarat, Chaman, Mastung, and Pishin during the evening hours. Other regions, including Chaghi, Nushki, Khuzdar, Barkhan, Sibi, Hernai, Zhob, and Musa Khel, are also forecasted to experience strong winds and thunderstorms.

The minimum temperatures recorded in various regions stand as follows: Quetta at 7°C, Kalat at 5°C, Ziarat at 3°C, Zhob at 9°C, Sibi at 14°C, Turbat at 19°C, Nokundi at 15°C, and Chaman at 12°C. In coastal areas, Gwadar recorded a minimum temperature of 18°C, while Jiwani stood at 19°C.

The ongoing weather pattern is being driven by a system entering Pakistan through Balochistan, which is contributing to Punjab’s stormy conditions. Experts believe that while the rainfall is beneficial for agriculture, strong winds could pose challenges for commuters and infrastructure in parts of Punjab.

Earlier this weekend, Murree welcomed an influx of tourists eager to experience its breathtaking winter scenery. Snow-covered peaks, frozen lakes, and misty valleys attracted visitors from across Punjab and beyond. Roads leading to the hill station were packed with vehicles as families, friends, and couples made their way to the picturesque location.

A student from Islamabad, visiting Murree with friends, expressed excitement, saying, “I had been looking forward to this trip for weeks.” The charm of Murree’s winter weather continues to make it a top destination for travelers from Punjab and other regions.
