Trinidad, August 6, 2025 – The West Indies have announced a 15-member squad for the upcoming three-match One Day International (ODI) series against Pakistan, set to begin on August 8 in Trinidad.

The series is seen as a vital step in the West Indies’ journey toward qualifying for the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2027.

Shai Hope will lead the West Indies squad, which blends experienced players with emerging young talent. A major highlight is the return of hard-hitting all-rounder Romario Shepherd, who makes his ODI comeback after last featuring against Bangladesh last year. His inclusion is expected to add depth to both the batting and bowling departments.

The West Indies have also retained 18-year-old wicket-keeper-batter Jewel Andrew, who made his debut last year against Sri Lanka and impressed again during the England series earlier this summer. Left-arm pacer Jediah Blades and opener Amir Jangoo, both of whom have shown promise in past series, also feature in the squad.

West Indies head coach Daren Sammy emphasized the importance of the series, stating that Pakistan, currently ranked fourth in the ICC ODI rankings, pose a significant challenge. He added that facing high-ranked teams like Pakistan helps the West Indies gain valuable ranking points and build momentum for World Cup qualification.

The Indies recently faced a narrow 2-1 defeat in a T20I series at home and are eager to bounce back. Currently ranked 10th in ODIs, the West Indies are under pressure to secure key wins in order to improve their standings and stake a stronger claim for 2027.
