Kolkata, February 19, 2026 – West Indies maintained their unbeaten run in the group stage of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026 by defeating Italy by 42 runs at Eden Gardens on Thursday.
With this victory, West Indies completed a clean sweep of four wins in four matches, becoming the third team after South Africa and India to finish the league stage unbeaten. The Caribbean side will begin their Super Eight campaign against Zimbabwe on February 23 at Wankhede Stadium.
Batting first, West Indies struggled to build momentum and posted a modest total of 165 for 6. Skipper Shai Hope led from the front with a brilliant 75 off 46 balls, anchoring the innings. Despite disciplined bowling by Italy, Hope’s composed knock proved decisive.
In reply, Italy never found rhythm during the chase. Early wickets and lack of partnerships restricted them to 123 all out, handing West Indies a comfortable 42-run victory. Shamar Joseph starred with the ball, claiming four wickets and four catches, while Matthew Forde provided strong support.
Hope was adjudged Player of the Match for his commanding innings. He praised his bowling unit for executing plans effectively and stressed the need for ruthless performances as tougher challenges await.
