WhatsApp has officially rolled out a brand-new feature called Message Translations, designed to break down language barriers and make conversations smoother for users around the world.
As the name suggests, the new feature lets users instantly translate text messages within their chats — whether in 1:1 conversations, group chats, or Channels.
The process is simple and user-friendly. When a message appears in a language different from the user’s default language, they can long-press the message, tap “Translate,” and select the language they want the message translated to or from. Once translated, the message can also be downloaded for future use, allowing users to build a quick translation library.
For Android users, WhatsApp is adding an even more convenient option — the ability to enable automatic translations for all future incoming messages within a specific chat thread. This means conversations in multiple languages will flow naturally without the need to manually translate each message.
In terms of privacy, WhatsApp has assured users that all translations happen directly on their device. This ensures that no message content is sent to external servers, and not even WhatsApp can access the translated data.
The rollout of the Message Translations feature has already begun for both Android and iPhone users, though it is currently available in select languages. For Android users, translations are initially supported in English, Spanish, Hindi, Portuguese, Russian, and Arabic. Meanwhile, iPhone users will have access to translations in more than 19 languages, expanding communication possibilities even further.
This update marks another significant step for WhatsApp in enhancing cross-cultural communication and improving the user experience. With language no longer being a barrier, users can now engage in global conversations more confidently and efficiently.
The Message Translations feature is being gradually rolled out worldwide, so users are encouraged to update their app to the latest version to start using this powerful new tool.
