WhatsApp is introducing a new artificial intelligence feature called Writing Help, designed to assist users in composing messages with ease.

As the name suggests, Writing Help provides smart text suggestions in multiple tones, including professional, funny, or supportive, allowing users to craft the right response for any situation. The suggestions are optional, giving users the choice to select, edit, or ignore them entirely.

To access this tool, users can tap on the new pencil icon while writing a message in either one-on-one or group chats. Powered by Meta AI, Writing Help is built on Private Processing technology, which ensures that neither Meta nor WhatsApp has access to users’ original messages or the AI-generated suggestions. According to WhatsApp, this system has been rigorously stress-tested and validated in collaboration with experts from the security community.

Privacy remains a key focus of this rollout. The feature is turned off by default, and users who prefer not to use AI assistance can simply continue messaging without enabling it. WhatsApp emphasizes that Writing Help is meant to enhance conversations while maintaining end-to-end privacy standards.

Initially, Writing Help is launching in English and will be available in the United States along with several other countries. WhatsApp has confirmed that support for additional languages and regions will be introduced later in 2025, widening access to its growing global user base.

The new feature marks another step in WhatsApp’s ongoing integration of AI tools aimed at improving user experience. From simplifying message composition to offering context-appropriate suggestions, Writing Help could be particularly useful for professional communication, lighthearted conversations, or offering thoughtful replies when users might be unsure what to say.

With billions of users worldwide, WhatsApp continues to evolve beyond being just a messaging app, integrating advanced features that keep pace with modern communication needs. As Writing Help begins its rollout, users can expect a smarter, more personalized messaging experience—while still retaining full control over how and when they use it.
