Meta-owned messaging platform WhatsApp has released a special update ahead of the New Year, introducing 2026-themed stickers along with a range of festive features designed to help users celebrate and connect in more creative ways.
According to WhatsApp, the latest update includes interactive video call effects, enhanced message reactions, and a dedicated 2026 sticker pack that can be used in chats as well as status updates. These additions aim to give conversations a celebratory touch as users welcome the New Year.
A standout feature of the update is the introduction of a special Lottie sticker, now available for both individual and group chats. The animated sticker adds a lively and festive feel to conversations, making New Year greetings more engaging and visually appealing.
Users can also place the 2026 sticker directly into status layouts, allowing them to highlight the transition into the New Year using photos or videos. This feature is expected to be popular among users who enjoy sharing milestones and celebrations through WhatsApp Status.
In addition, WhatsApp has rolled out new video call effects, enabling users to add animations such as fireworks, confetti, and stars during calls by tapping the effects icon. These visual enhancements are designed to make virtual celebrations more fun and interactive.
With over 100 billion messages and two billion calls handled regularly, WhatsApp said this is the first time it has introduced dedicated festive stickers on such a scale. The platform has also shared tips for smoother New Year planning, including creating and pinning events in group chats to keep everyone aligned.
WhatsApp said the new features aim to help users stay connected and celebrate together, no matter where they are in the world.
