WhatsApp Testing New Voicemail-Like Feature for Missed Calls

WhatsApp

WhatsApp is preparing to roll out another useful upgrade for its users. After recently testing a call reminder option, the Meta-owned messaging giant is now working on a voicemail-like feature designed specifically for missed calls.

The update was first reported by WABetaInfo, which spotted the feature in WhatsApp beta version 2.25.23.21 for Android.

According to details, the feature works in a simple yet practical way. When a user makes a WhatsApp voice call and the recipient does not pick up, the caller will see a new “Record voice message” shortcut on the call screen. This option will appear alongside the usual “Call again” and “Cancel” buttons, allowing users to instantly leave an audio message instead of making repeated call attempts.

In addition to the call screen, the “Record voice message” option will also be visible in the chat window with the same contact. This dual shortcut ensures that users can quickly send a message without navigating through multiple steps. While WhatsApp already allows voice notes through the chat’s paperclip attachment icon, this new integration is expected to streamline the process, saving users time and effort.

The voicemail-like feature can be especially useful for urgent situations where text messages might not convey the same tone or immediacy. By directly recording and sending an audio message after a missed call, WhatsApp is aiming to enhance communication efficiency and user convenience.

Currently, the feature is only accessible to select beta testers on Android, with no confirmation yet on a wider rollout. As with most WhatsApp experiments, the company may refine the functionality further before launching it globally.

This update comes as WhatsApp continues to expand its platform with features focused on improving both personal and professional communication. In recent months, the app has introduced call reminders, enhanced group controls, and AI-powered chat improvements. If successfully implemented, the voicemail-like tool could become another widely used addition, reinforcing WhatsApp’s position as the world’s most popular messaging service.
