WhatsApp is set to enhance user convenience by introducing a new feature that allows importing profile photos directly from Facebook and Instagram accounts.
This move is part of Meta’s ongoing efforts to streamline integration across its platforms. Currently, WhatsApp users can update their profile photo by either taking a new picture, selecting one from their phone’s gallery, or using the AI-generated images feature.
However, according to a new report by WABetaInfo, a fresh update is in the works that will offer two additional options—importing profile photos from Facebook and Instagram.
The upcoming feature was spotted in WhatsApp beta version 2.25.21.23 for Android, and it shows new options within the profile settings menu. Users with linked accounts in Meta’s Account Center will soon be able to directly choose their Facebook or Instagram profile photo to display on WhatsApp.
WABetaInfo confirmed that this feature will be optional and disabled by default, meaning users can choose whether or not to enable it. Importantly, the integration does not compromise WhatsApp’s end-to-end encryption or privacy settings, as the profile image sync is handled separately from chat data.
At the moment, the feature is only available to select beta testers, and WhatsApp has not announced an official rollout date for the stable version. Once launched widely, this update will make it easier for users to maintain a consistent online identity across Meta’s platforms without having to manually upload or update profile pictures.
This enhancement follows recent improvements in WhatsApp’s personalization tools, including support for avatars and AI-generated images. With the ability to pull photos from Facebook and Instagram, WhatsApp continues to strengthen its position as a unified communication tool within the Meta ecosystem.
Users can expect broader availability in the coming weeks as testing progresses and feedback is collected from beta users.
