Islamabad, July 23, 2025 – The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has issued a comprehensive weather alert forecasting widespread monsoon rains across several districts of Punjab during the next 24 to 48 hours.
Citizens have been advised to stay alert, especially in low-lying and vulnerable areas.
According to the PMD, strong monsoon currents from the Arabian Sea combined with a westerly wave are penetrating the upper parts of the country, including Punjab, setting the stage for persistent rains in various districts.
Wednesday Forecast (July 23)
Rain-wind/thundershower is expected in numerous Punjab cities including Rawalpindi, Murree, Galiyat, Chakwal, Attock, Sargodha, Khushab, Mianwali, Jhelum, Gujranwala, Gujrat, Sialkot, Narowal, Mandi Bahauddin, Hafizabad, Lahore, Sheikhupura, Shakargarh, Dera Ghazi Khan, Sahiwal, Kot Addu and Taunsa Sharif. Heavy rains are likely in some of these areas, increasing the risk of flash flooding. Isolated showers may also occur in Kasur, Jhang, Toba Tek Singh, Multan, Khanewal, Faisalabad, Layyah, and Bhakkar.

Similar weather conditions will persist in Punjab on Thursday. The same regions mentioned above can expect more rains and thundershowers, with potential for heavy downpours, especially in urban centers and hilly regions. Local authorities are urged to remain vigilant as these rains could disrupt daily life and travel.

The PMD warns that heavy rains on July 23 and 24 may trigger flash floods in local nullahs and streams in Chitral, Dir, Swat, Shangla, and the Pothohar region including northeast Punjab and Kashmir. Urban flooding may also affect cities like Lahore, Gujranwala, Sialkot, Faisalabad, and Sargodha. Additionally, landslides may occur in the hilly regions of Murree, Galiyat, and Gilgit-Baltistan.

Significant rainfall was recorded in Punjab, with Attock receiving 125 mm, Jhelum 120 mm, and Lahore 101 mm at the airport. Other cities like Sheikhupura, Faisalabad, Narowal, and Murree also saw substantial downpours.
