Islamabad, February 26, 2025 – Punjab is currently experiencing widespread rainfall as a strong weather system grips most of its districts. According to the latest weather forecast, heavy downpours accompanied by gusty winds are expected to persist over the province in the coming days.
The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has predicted more widespread rains with occasional gaps in Punjab, particularly in Islamabad, Rawalpindi, and other central and upper regions of the province. The wet weather will likely continue from Wednesday night through Friday, with strong winds adding to the impact.
A powerful westerly wave is affecting the central and upper regions of Pakistan, including Punjab, and is expected to remain over the area for the next two to three days. As a result, intermittent rainfall and gusty winds will persist, along with snowfall over the hills in various parts of upper and central Punjab, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Kashmir, Gilgit-Baltistan, and northeast Balochistan.
In addition, the PMD has warned of heavy rainfall and snowfall over the hills in northeastern Punjab, which could cause disruptions. The possibility of isolated hailstorms cannot be ruled out during this period. Other parts of the country may experience partly cloudy conditions with occasional showers.
The weather system is likely to impact road conditions, especially in Murree and surrounding areas of Punjab. Authorities have advised travelers to exercise caution as heavy rains and snowfall could lead to road closures and slippery conditions in Murree, Galliyat, and other high-altitude regions. Moreover, flash floods may occur in vulnerable areas of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Kashmir due to intense downpours.
Temperature forecasts indicate that Islamabad will experience minimum temperatures between 10°C and 12°C on Thursday, and 11°C to 13°C on Friday. In Rawalpindi, temperatures are expected to range between 11°C and 13°C on Thursday, dropping slightly to 10°C and 12°C on Friday.
Over the past 24 hours, rainfall and gusty winds have been recorded across various regions, including Punjab, where Murree received 28mm of rain. Other notable rainfall measurements include Islamabad (10mm at the Airport), Rawalpindi (7mm in Kacheri and Shamsabad), and Attock (5mm).
With Punjab continuing to witness heavy rains, residents are urged to stay updated on weather alerts and take necessary precautions to ensure their safety during this wet spell.
