Will Smith returns to filming with new Supermax thriller in Sydney

The Bad Boys star is back on a movie set after two years, leading an FBI thriller alongside AnnaSophia Robb and Jaafar Jackson.

Will Smith has returned to movie production, with the Hollywood star spotted filming his upcoming thriller Supermax in Sydney. The project marks his first film role since 2024 and signals his return to the big screen after a two-year break from movie production.

The Bad Boys actor was photographed on August 26 while working on the film in Sydney. Smith was seen wearing a metallic copper tracksuit over a white T-shirt, completing his look with Nike Jordans.

The project was announced in May by Smith’s production company, Westbrook, which confirmed its collaboration with Amazon MGM Studios, Miramax and filmmaker David Gordon Green.

Will Smith leads Supermax cast

Will Smith Supermax follows two FBI agents who are assigned to investigate a murder inside an ultra-secure prison. The story is expected to combine crime, suspense and unexpected twists as the investigators attempt to uncover the truth behind the killing.

Smith plays the lead character, Rex, while AnnaSophia Robb joins him as an FBI agent and partner. Jaafar Jackson is also part of the cast.

Robb confirmed her involvement through Instagram on July 21, expressing excitement about joining the production and describing herself as grateful for the opportunity.

David Weil and David J. Rosen wrote the screenplay and are also executive producers. Smith and Adam Fishbach are among the project’s producers.

Smith’s first movie since Bad Boys sequel

Supermax is Smith’s first movie since Bad Boys: Ride or Die, which arrived in 2024 as the fourth installment of the popular action-comedy franchise. The film, co-starring Martin Lawrence, generated $193.5 million at the domestic box office and ranked among North America’s highest-grossing films of 2024.

Although Smith has been away from movie sets, he remained active on television. In January 2026, he hosted National Geographic’s Pole to Pole with Will Smith, taking part in challenges including skiing to the South Pole and diving beneath North Pole ice.

He also made a brief appearance as the original version of his Bel-Air character in the show’s series finale.

Supermax will stream exclusively on Prime Video worldwide, giving audiences a new opportunity to see Smith in a suspense-driven role.
