Karachi, January 7, 2025 – The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has forecast a very cold spell for Karachi over the next three days, bringing chilly weather to the bustling port city.
Karachi is expected to experience minimum temperatures ranging between 6 and 8 degrees Celsius until Friday, January 10, 2025.
According to the PMD, Karachi and other regions of Sindh will witness cold and dry weather during this period. Additionally, shallow to moderate patches of fog are likely to form in surrounding areas, including Sukkur, Shaheed Benazirabad, Shikarpur, Kashmore, and Khairpur, particularly during morning and nighttime hours. The foggy conditions may affect visibility, urging commuters in Karachi and nearby regions to exercise caution.
The PMD’s synoptic analysis indicates that continental air continues to dominate most parts of Pakistan, influencing the current weather pattern. While Karachi braces for colder days, the national forecast highlights cold and dry conditions across much of the country, with very cold weather persisting in hilly areas. Frost is expected in parts of Kashmir, upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Pothohar region, and upper Punjab during early morning hours.
For Tuesday, the PMD predicted moderate to dense fog in northeastern Punjab, with shallow to moderate patches expected in southern Punjab and upper Sindh, extending to Karachi’s outskirts. On Wednesday, similar conditions are anticipated, with frost likely in select regions during the morning.
Over the past 24 hours, Karachi and much of Pakistan experienced cold and dry weather, with very cold conditions in hilly areas. Some rain was recorded in upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Kashmir, while dense fog continued to affect eastern Punjab and upper Sindh.
Recorded rainfall included 6 mm in Pattan and 1 mm in Kakul (Khyber Pakhtunkhwa), and 1 mm in Garhi Dupatta (Kashmir). The lowest minimum temperatures reported were –10°C in Leh, –8°C in Kalat and Astore, and –7°C in Quetta, Gupis, and Ziarat. Karachi, though spared from such extreme lows, will remain under the influence of cold winds over the next few days, ensuring a continuation of the winter bonanza.
Residents of Karachi are advised to stay warm and take precautions as the cold wave continues to grip the city and its surroundings.
