Islamabad, January 31, 2026 – Winter conditions are expected to persist across Pakistan as a shallow westerly wave continues to affect northern and western regions of the country, according to the latest weather update issued by the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD).
Synoptic Situation:
The PMD reported that a shallow westerly wave is influencing the upper and western parts of Pakistan, prolonging cold weather conditions, particularly in hilly and mountainous areas.
Weather Forecast for Saturday:
Mainly cold and dry weather is likely to prevail over most parts of the country. However, very cold conditions are expected in hilly regions. Partly cloudy skies with light rain or light snowfall may occur at isolated locations in Gilgit-Baltistan, upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, and northern Balochistan.
Weather Outlook for Sunday:
Cold and dry weather is forecast to continue across most areas, with very cold conditions persisting in the hills. Partly cloudy to cloudy weather, along with light rain or snowfall, is expected at isolated places in Gilgit-Baltistan, upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, and Kashmir.
Past 24-Hour Weather Conditions:
Over the last 24 hours, cold and dry weather dominated most regions of Pakistan, while very cold conditions were recorded in hilly areas. Light rain and snowfall were reported at isolated locations in upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, northwestern Balochistan, and Gilgit-Baltistan.
Recorded rainfall included 4 mm in Kalam (Khyber Pakhtunkhwa), 4 mm in Quetta (Sheikh Manda and Samungli areas), and 2 mm in Gupis (Gilgit-Baltistan). Snowfall of 2 inches was recorded in Kalam and 1 inch in Gupis.
The lowest minimum temperatures recorded were Leh at minus 9°C, Gupis at minus 7°C, Astore and Kalam at minus 6°C, followed by Skardu and Malam Jabba at minus 4°C, highlighting the intensity of the ongoing cold spell.
