Apple’s annual Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC25) kicks off on Monday, June 9, and this year’s keynote is expected to bring the most significant software overhaul in over a decade.

While WWDC is primarily a developer-centric event, Apple fans around the globe are eagerly awaiting the keynote for a first look at the new operating systems that will power iPhones, iPads, Macs, and more this fall.

A New Naming Strategy

One of the biggest changes anticipated is the rebranding of Apple’s OS naming scheme. Instead of sequential numbering (e.g., iOS 19), Apple will reportedly shift to year-based naming—launching iOS 26, iPadOS 26, macOS 26, and others. This new system aligns with the software’s expected lifespan into 2026 and simplifies tracking for users.

Unified Visual Design Across Devices

WWDC25 will also introduce a sweeping visual redesign across all Apple platforms. Inspired by visionOS from the Apple Vision Pro, the new design is expected to include glass-like UI elements, floating toolbars, reflective lighting, and rounder icons. This unified look aims to bring consistency across iOS, macOS, iPadOS, watchOS, tvOS, and visionOS.

iOS 26 and iPadOS 26 Highlights

iOS 26 will showcase the new design and include features like a dedicated gaming app, Stage Manager for external monitor support, and improved accessibility. iPadOS 26 will share these upgrades but focus more on productivity, multitasking, and a Mac-like interface, addressing long-standing user concerns about the iPad’s limited software functionality.

Details remain limited, but all other platforms are expected to receive the same visual overhaul. Apple Intelligence, the company’s AI platform, may expand to Apple Watch, Apple TV, and Vision Pro, though the Apple Watch may rely on connected iPhones for AI processing due to hardware limitations.

AI and Hardware Expectations

While new Apple Intelligence features may be few—possibly including AI battery management and integration of Google’s Gemini chatbot—don’t expect new iPhones. A Mac Pro refresh or Apple TV update may be announced, but major hardware is likely reserved for the fall.

The WWDC25 keynote begins at 10 a.m. PT / 1 p.m. ET on June 9.
