Xiaomi Electric Crossover YU7 Delayed Until Mid-2025

Xiaomi, the Chinese tech giant, has recently updated its timeline for the highly anticipated launch of its electric crossover, the YU7.

Despite obtaining the necessary sales license earlier than expected, the company confirmed that the vehicle won’t be available in the Chinese market until June or July of 2025.

Reasons Behind the Delay

The delay in the YU7’s launch is primarily attributed to the need for extensive testing. With the early acquisition of the sales license, Xiaomi can begin testing the vehicle without the heavy camouflage typically seen in pre-production models.

This allows for a more thorough evaluation of critical aspects such as noise, vibration, harshness (NVH), energy consumption, and overall durability, ensuring that the YU7 meets the high standards set by the company.

Another factor contributing to the delay is the ongoing construction of Xiaomi’s second-phase car factory, F2. The current manufacturing facility lacks the capacity to handle the YU7’s production, making the completion of F2 essential for the vehicle’s rollout.

Xiaomi has set an ambitious goal to finish the F2 plant in just 10-11 months, a significantly quicker timeline compared to the 15 months it took to complete the F1 plant.

The Xiaomi YU7: What We Know So Far

The Xiaomi YU7 is a mid-size electric crossover designed to compete in the rapidly growing electric vehicle (EV) market. It features impressive dimensions and a powerful electric drivetrain that allows the vehicle to reach a top speed of 253 km/h.

The YU7 is powered by a CATL ternary NMC battery, though specific details about its capacity have not been disclosed.

The name “YU7” is pronounced as “Y-U-7,” but the exact meaning behind it remains unclear. However, it’s speculated that the “U” in the name might signify “Ultra,” a naming convention similar to Xiaomi’s other models, like the SU7 sedan.

With the YU7, Xiaomi is looking to make a significant impact in the EV market, further establishing its position as a major player in the automotive industry.

Although the delay may be disappointing for some eager customers, Xiaomi’s commitment to quality and thorough testing ensures that the final product will meet the high expectations of both the market and its loyal customer base.
