Xiaomi is preparing a major expansion of its automotive portfolio, with plans to introduce four new vehicles in 2026, including two EREV SUVs and two updated versions of the SU7 sedan.
The move signals the tech giant’s growing confidence in the competitive new-energy vehicle space, particularly in extended-range electric vehicle (EREV) technology.
According to industry sources, Xiaomi’s rollout strategy will be split across the year. A refreshed SU7 sedan and a large 7-seater EREV SUV are expected to arrive in the first half of 2026, while an executive SU7 variant and a 5-seater EREV SUV are scheduled for launch between the second half and the end of the year.
Spotlight on Xiaomi’s 7-Seater EREV SUV
One of the most anticipated models is Xiaomi’s upcoming full-size 7-seat EREV SUV, internally known as “Kunlun.” Earlier this year, Xiaomi CEO Lei Jun and senior executives were spotted conducting vehicle tests in Xinjiang, China, where camouflaged prototypes of a large SUV surfaced online. These spy images have fueled excitement among auto enthusiasts.
Designed to compete with premium family SUVs like the Li Auto L9, the Kunlun SUV is expected to feature a large battery pack exceeding 70 kWh, enabling an estimated pure electric driving range of 400 to 500 kilometers. This positions it as a strong contender for buyers seeking long-distance flexibility without range anxiety.
Executive SU7: Comfort Takes Center Stage
Xiaomi is also developing an executive version of the SU7, aimed at customers prioritizing rear-seat comfort.
This long-wheelbase sedan reportedly offers significant enhancements for rear passengers, including increased legroom and upgraded comfort features, making it suitable for business users and premium buyers.
Xiaomi’s Long-Term Bet on EREV Technology
Xiaomi’s focus on EREV powertrains is not new. Since 2023, the company has been actively building teams dedicated to extended-range technology, with its careers portal currently listing more than 20 EREV-related positions. This highlights a long-term commitment rather than a short-term experiment.
Fierce Competition Ahead
Industry experts view 2025 as the starting point of intense competition in the large-battery hybrid and EREV segment.
Several brands have already entered the market, while others, including XPeng, are preparing EREV variants of existing models. With battery capacities approaching 80 kWh, Xiaomi’s upcoming SUVs are expected to be well-aligned with future market trends.
As 2026 approaches, one question remains: Can Xiaomi’s EREV strategy reshape expectations in the premium electric SUV and sedan segments? Auto enthusiasts will be watching closely.
