A leaked interface suggests Xiaomi could introduce an app-based privacy display feature with the upcoming Xiaomi 18 Pro and Xiaomi 18 Pro Max.
Xiaomi appears to be preparing its own hardware-controlled privacy display feature for an upcoming flagship smartphone, following Samsung’s introduction of a similar technology with the Galaxy S26 Ultra.
A newly leaked interface reportedly reveals how Xiaomi’s Smart Privacy Display could work on supported devices. The leaked recording was allegedly captured from a global ROM and shows users being able to customise privacy settings for different applications.
According to the screenshots and interface details, users may be able to create groups and add specific apps to each group, allowing different privacy display settings depending on the application being used.
One of the most notable features appears to be automatic privacy protection for sensitive activities. The phone could reportedly enable the privacy display automatically when users access password entry pages, payment services, money transfers and messaging applications.
Such functionality could help reduce the visibility of sensitive information to people looking at a smartphone screen from the side, potentially offering additional protection in public places.
Samsung introduced the first built-in hardware-controlled privacy display on a smartphone with the Galaxy S26 Ultra earlier this year. Xiaomi’s leaked interface now suggests that similar technology may soon appear outside Samsung’s flagship lineup.
The Smart Privacy Display is expected to debut on one of Xiaomi’s upcoming premium smartphones, potentially the Xiaomi 18 Pro and Xiaomi 18 Pro Max.
Rumours about Xiaomi developing a privacy display feature first emerged in June. While the latest leak does not confirm the final hardware implementation, it provides an early look at the software interface Xiaomi could use to control the feature.
The Xiaomi 18 Pro and 18 Pro Max are expected to launch in September and are rumoured to feature Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 Pro chipset.
Both devices are also expected to retain Xiaomi’s distinctive rear display design. Recent reports have suggested that the secondary screens could become larger on the next-generation flagship models.
Xiaomi has not officially confirmed the Smart Privacy Display feature or announced which devices will support it. Until an official unveiling takes place, the leaked interface and specifications should therefore be treated as unconfirmed.
