Xiaomi has officially set a timeline for its entry into the global electric vehicle (EV) market, aiming to launch its EVs internationally by 2027.
The announcement came from Xiaomi President William Lu during an interview at Mobile World Congress (MWC) 2025, where the highly anticipated Xiaomi SU7 Ultra made its global debut.
This marks a significant milestone in Xiaomi’s automotive journey, as it provides the first concrete timeline for the company’s expansion beyond China.
Lu also confirmed that Xiaomi plans to explore European markets in March 2025, underlining a strategic approach to overseas growth. With a strong track record in consumer electronics, Xiaomi is now determined to establish itself as a major force in the global EV sector.
Xiaomi entered the EV market in March 2021 and launched its first electric vehicle, the Xiaomi SU7, in March 2024. The sleek, all-electric sedan gained rapid traction, selling out its entire 2024 production allocation within 24 hours.
Priced competitively at 215,900 yuan (approximately $29,700 USD) for the base model, the SU7 features a 73.6 kWh battery from BYD, offering an impressive 700 km range (CLTC) and a 220 kW rear e-motor. The high-end variant is equipped with a 101 kWh CATL battery, providing an 800 km range and dual motors delivering a combined 495 kW.
Initially, industry analysts and investors expressed skepticism over Xiaomi’s ability to penetrate the already competitive EV landscape.
However, the overwhelming success of the SU7 and its high-performance counterpart, the SU7 Ultra, has reinforced confidence in Xiaomi’s automotive ambitions.
The recently launched Xiaomi SU7 Ultra, which debuted in China on February 27, 2025, is further proof of the company’s capabilities. With an astounding 1,527 horsepower and a price tag of 529,900 yuan (around $72,700 USD), the SU7 Ultra shattered expectations by selling 10,000 units within just two hours. Reports indicate that total orders have now exceeded 19,000 units, surpassing initial sales targets.
By focusing on domestic market consolidation before expanding globally, Xiaomi is positioning itself for a competitive entry into the international EV market by 2027. With strong initial sales and a clear strategic roadmap, Xiaomi appears ready to challenge established automakers and disrupt the global electric vehicle industry.
