Xiaomi SU7 Hits 20,000 Deliveries, Aims for 100,000 More

Xiaomi-SU7

Xiaomi has marked a significant milestone with the delivery of its 20,000th SU7 sedan on June 13, just 77 days after its launch on March 28. Despite facing initial production challenges at its new Beijing factory, Xiaomi remains bullish on its prospects, aiming to deliver a total of 120,000 SU7 units by the end of 2024.

The SU7 sedan has quickly captured the attention of the Chinese market, evidenced by its impressive debut of 50,000 pre-orders within a mere 27 minutes of its launch.

Available in three variants – Standard, Pro, and Max – with starting prices ranging from $29,700 to $41,300, the SU7 offers consumers a range of options tailored to different needs and preferences.

The top-tier Max version boasts a robust 800 km range and an impressive 495 kW (663 hp) power output, showcasing Xiaomi’s commitment to delivering high-performance electric vehicles.

However, Xiaomi has acknowledged the challenges it faces in meeting the overwhelming demand for the SU7. Customers currently face significant wait times, with a wait of up to 35 weeks reported for certain models due to production constraints.

In response, Xiaomi has taken proactive steps to ramp up production capacity. Starting in June, the company implemented double-shift production at its Beijing plant and initiated a recruitment drive to bolster its workforce. These efforts are crucial as Xiaomi strives to fulfill its promise of increasing delivery volumes to meet escalating consumer interest.

Recent data from China indicates a slight decline in weekly SU7 registrations, prompting Xiaomi’s management to clarify that the issue lies primarily in production and delivery capacities rather than a waning demand.

Wang Hua, general manager of Xiaomi Group’s PR department, reassured stakeholders that while orders are growing, logistical challenges are currently the main hurdle to meeting demand.

Looking ahead, Xiaomi remains focused on optimizing its production processes and expanding its delivery capabilities to ensure timely fulfillment of customer orders. The company’s commitment to innovation and customer satisfaction underscores its ambitious goals in the competitive electric vehicle market.

As Xiaomi continues to navigate through production challenges, industry observers will closely monitor its progress in scaling SU7 deliveries and maintaining its position as a key player in the evolving electric vehicle landscape.
