Xiaomi appears to be preparing its own item-tracking accessory, as fresh leaks have revealed new details about the upcoming Xiaomi Tag.
First reported last month, the Xiaomi Tag is expected to be the company’s answer to Apple’s AirTag and Motorola’s Moto Tag, signaling Xiaomi’s growing interest in the smart tracking accessories market.
New information has now surfaced through Xiaomi’s HyperOS Android skin, where references to the Xiaomi Tag were discovered hidden within the system code. Alongside these references, leaked images and even a short video have provided a clearer look at the device’s design and key specifications. The leaks strongly suggest that Xiaomi is already in advanced stages of development.
Based on the leaked visuals, the Xiaomi Tag features a compact oval-shaped design. This form factor is similar to existing Bluetooth trackers on the market and appears optimized for easy attachment to keys, bags, wallets, or other personal items. The minimalist design aligns with Xiaomi’s broader product aesthetics, focusing on practicality and simplicity.
The HyperOS code also reveals details about the power source. The Xiaomi Tag is expected to use a CR2032 coin-style battery, the same type used in Samsung’s Galaxy SmartTag series. This battery choice is notable, as CR2032 batteries are widely available, affordable, and easy to replace, making the Xiaomi Tag more user-friendly over long-term use.
Another major revelation is that Xiaomi plans to release two variants of the Xiaomi Tag. One model will include Ultra-Wideband (UWB) support, enabling precise location tracking and improved accuracy when finding nearby items. The second model will lack UWB support, which likely means a lower price point aimed at budget-conscious consumers. This dual-model strategy mirrors approaches taken by competitors to cater to different user needs and price segments.
However, there is a potential limitation for global users. According to the leak, the Xiaomi Tag may initially launch exclusively in China. While Xiaomi often starts products in its home market, international availability could follow later, depending on demand and ecosystem expansion.
If officially launched, the Xiaomi Tag would strengthen Xiaomi’s smart ecosystem and offer users a competitive alternative to Apple and Samsung’s tracking devices, especially within the Android and HyperOS environment.
