Xiaomi has electrified the automotive world with the record-breaking launch of its all-new electric SUV, the Xiaomi YU7, which has secured an astonishing 240,000 lock-in orders within just 18 hours of its debut.

The overwhelming response highlights surging demand for Xiaomi’s expanding electric vehicle (EV) lineup, as the tech brand deepens its footprint in China’s competitive EV sector.

Unlike refundable pre-bookings, these are firm, non-refundable commitments by customers—either through a 5,000 yuan ($700 USD) refundable deposit that converts to a confirmed order after seven days, or via a fast-track 20,000 yuan ($2,800 USD) deposit that guarantees priority delivery.

The latter option was marked “sold out” in Xiaomi’s app shortly after launch, reflecting the YU7’s immediate popularity.

This strong start echoes the success of Xiaomi’s debut EV, the SU7 sedan, which stunned the market in March 2024 by generating 50,000 orders in just 27 minutes and nearly 90,000 in the first 24 hours.

According to China EV DataTracker, over 272,000 SU7 units were delivered from launch through May 2025, cementing Xiaomi’s presence in the electric vehicle arena.

Xiaomi CEO Lei Jun had predicted that YU7 demand would surpass SU7’s, citing the 3:1 SUV-to-sedan sales ratio in China as a key factor.

This forecast appears accurate, as YU7 orders have already exceeded SU7’s debut performance. The YU7’s pricing also plays a pivotal role—it starts at 253,500 yuan ($35,300 USD) for the 830 km CLTC range version, offering better value than the Tesla Model Y RWD, priced at 263,500 yuan in China.

Launched with Xiaomi’s signature smart integration and competitive specs, the YU7 aims to disrupt the mid-size electric SUV market.

The YU7 not only undercuts its biggest rivals in price but also features long-range capability and a high-tech design, appealing to both tech-savvy and family-oriented buyers.

Since announcing its EV venture in March 2021, Xiaomi has made major strides toward its goal of selling 10 million electric vehicles annually, signaling its bold ambitions in global mobility. With the YU7’s blockbuster launch, Xiaomi’s vision for dominating the EV space seems increasingly within reach.
