Xiaomi is gearing up to disrupt the electric vehicle (EV) market with its first-ever SUV, the Xiaomi YU7, which is set to compete directly with the Tesla Model Y.
Recent disclosures from China’s Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) reveal that the all-wheel-drive (AWD) variant of the YU7 will offer outstanding battery performance and impressive range estimates.
The highly anticipated SUV is expected to debut in June or July 2025, with a starting price of 250,000 yuan (approximately $34,500 USD).
Powerful AWD and RWD Variants
The Xiaomi YU7 AWD features a dual-motor setup, with the front motor producing 220 kW (295 hp) and the rear motor delivering 288 kW (386 hp). These motors are paired with ternary lithium battery packs, offering three different China Light-Duty Vehicle Test Cycle (CLTC)-rated ranges: 750 km, 760 km, and 670 km. The respective energy consumption per 100 km is 14.9 kWh, 14.8 kWh, and 16.6 kWh. This variant weighs 2405 kg and boasts a top speed of 253 km/h.
Although official range figures for the rear-wheel-drive (RWD) version are yet to be disclosed, preliminary details suggest that it will be powered by a 235 kW (315 hp) rear motor, paired with a lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery. The RWD model is expected to reach a top speed of 240 km/h.
Dimensions and Cutting-Edge Features
The Xiaomi YU7 measures 4999 mm in length, 1996 mm in width, and 1600 mm in height, with a wheelbase of 3000 mm. Spy images suggest that Xiaomi may launch multiple trims, such as Standard, Pro, and Max versions.
Notably, a prominent roof-mounted lidar sensor indicates that Xiaomi will integrate its self-developed assisted driving system. Additionally, leaked interior shots reveal a massive ultra-wide infotainment screen dominating the dashboard.
Xiaomi’s Growing EV Success
This launch follows the success of Xiaomi’s SU7 electric sedan, which has exceeded 20,000 unit deliveries for four consecutive months. The company has also expanded its retail network, adding 16 new stores last month, bringing the total to 216 stores across 64 cities in China.
With the YU7’s competitive pricing, high range, and cutting-edge technology, Xiaomi aims to deliver 300,000 EVs by 2025. The YU7’s entry into the market could pose a significant challenge to the Tesla Model Y, making it a serious contender in the electric SUV segment.
