Chinese EV maker Xpeng has teamed up with tech giant Huawei to launch a revolutionary in-car display system: the “Chasing Light Panorama” Augmented Reality Head-Up Display (AR-HUD).
This cutting-edge innovation will debut in the upcoming Xpeng G7, a mid-size electric SUV slated for pre-sale on June 11, with deliveries expected in the third quarter of 2025.
Revolutionary AR-HUD Enhances Safety and Navigation
Unlike traditional HUDs, Xpeng’s new AR system projects driving data onto a massive 87-inch virtual display directly on the windshield.
Drivers can now view lane-level navigation, safety warnings, traffic light countdowns, and assisted driving alerts in real-time—without diverting their eyes from the road.
The AR-HUD also dynamically adapts to complex environments like roundabouts, tunnels, and highway merges, increasing driver awareness and confidence.
Powered by Huawei’s Optical Mastery
The display benefits from Huawei’s advanced optical algorithms and high-performance LCoS (Liquid Crystal on Silicon) imaging modules. With an 85% NTSC color gamut, 12,000-nit brightness, and a 1800:1 contrast ratio, the AR-HUD remains visible even in bright daylight. Key features include image stabilization, slope correction, and ultra-low latency, offering a crisp and lag-free visual experience.
Seamless Integration with Xpeng’s Autonomous Driving System
The AR-HUD is deeply integrated with Xpeng’s XNGP intelligent driving platform, which pulls data from millions of kilometers of autonomous driving.
This allows the system to present real-time obstacle avoidance paths, blind spot alerts, and route suggestions. It transforms the AR-HUD from a simple dashboard replacement into a proactive driving assistant.
Strategic Alliance Boosts Market Confidence
The collaboration highlights a broader trend in the auto industry: the merging of smart vehicle platforms with advanced consumer technology.
Xpeng leads in vehicle development and AR interface design, while Huawei contributes its expertise in chipsets and optics. Market response has been positive—Xpeng’s stock saw a bump following the announcement.
G7 Pricing and Launch Timeline
Priced at approximately 250,000 yuan (about $36,000 USD), the Xpeng G7 promises a premium experience at a competitive price. With its advanced AR system, intelligent driving features, and spacious design, it’s poised to be a game-changer in the mid-size EV market.
