YouTube has announced a suite of new experimental features, soon to be available to a limited group of users.
These innovations include AI-powered live chat summaries, Google Lens integration for search, and QR codes for channels, among others. These features will be exclusive to a small batch of users participating in YouTube’s experiments program and may not become available to the general public.
One of the most anticipated features is the AI live chat summary. This tool will be available for live streams conducted in English on channels with exceptionally active chat conversations.
Eligible channels will notice a special banner at the top of the live chat window, offering an option to summarize the comments. This aims to help viewers catch up quickly on the chat activity without scrolling through a flood of messages.
Additionally, YouTube is integrating Google Lens into its search functionality. A select number of Android users will soon see a Lens button in the search bar, enabling them to search for content using images. This feature leverages Google’s powerful image recognition technology, potentially transforming how users discover videos on YouTube, the world’s second most visited website.
Creators will also benefit from the introduction of QR codes for their channels. This new feature allows supported users to generate a QR code directly from their profile, facilitating easier and faster sharing of their channels with others.
This can be particularly useful for promoting content across different platforms and in physical settings.
YouTube Shorts, the platform’s short-form video service, is also receiving an upgrade with a new Effects button. This will feature user-generated effects, enhancing the creativity and engagement of short-format videos.
YouTube has confirmed that the Shorts Effects will be rolled out to more users later this year, promising a richer experience for content creators and viewers alike.
While these features are currently in the testing phase and limited to a small group of users, they represent YouTube’s ongoing efforts to innovate and enhance user experience.
