Afghanistan Appoints Bravo as T20 Bowling Consultant

ICC T20 World Cup in Pakistan

Afghanistan has enlisted former West Indian all-rounder Dwayne Bravo as their bowling consultant for next month’s T20 World Cup. Bravo, known as the leading wicket-taker in T20 cricket, will bring his extensive experience to the Afghan squad.

The Afghanistan Cricket Board (ACB) expressed their confidence in Bravo’s appointment. “West Indian World Cup winner Bravo has been appointed as bowling consultant and will join the squad during the preparation camp ahead of the marquee event,” stated the ACB in their release.

The Afghan team has already arrived in the Caribbean for a 10-day preparatory camp, where Bravo will join them. This camp aims to fine-tune their skills and strategies under Bravo’s guidance before the World Cup begins.

Bravo, 40, holds the record for the most wickets in T20 cricket, with 625 wickets in 573 games. He has long been regarded as one of the pioneers of bowling in the shortest format of the game. His vast experience and tactical knowledge are expected to greatly benefit the Afghan bowlers.

In preparation for the World Cup, Afghanistan will play warm-up games against Oman on May 29 and Scotland on May 31. These matches will provide crucial practice for the team as they gear up for the tournament.

Afghanistan faces a challenging competition in Group C, which includes co-hosts West Indies, New Zealand, Papua New Guinea, and Uganda. The tournament format divides the 20 competing teams into four groups of five. The top two teams from each group will advance to the Super Eight stage, intensifying the battle for the World Cup title.

The ninth edition of the T20 World Cup will take place in the United States and the West Indies from June 1 to June 29. The event promises to showcase thrilling cricket action, with Afghanistan hoping to make a significant impact under Bravo’s consultancy.

Bravo’s addition to the Afghan camp highlights the team’s commitment to enhancing their performance and achieving success on the global stage. His role as a mentor will be pivotal in guiding the bowlers through the nuances of T20 cricket and helping them adapt to different conditions.

The Afghan cricket community and fans eagerly await the outcomes of Bravo’s influence on the team, hoping it will lead to remarkable performances in the upcoming World Cup.
