Hashmatullah Shahidi to captain both formats while Rashid Khan and Ibrahim Zadran are left out of Afghanistan’s Test squad
The Afghanistan national cricket team has announced its squads for the upcoming Test and ODI series against the India national cricket team, with captain Hashmatullah Shahidi set to lead both sides.
The one-off Test will mark Afghanistan’s first red-ball meeting with India since the country’s historic Test debut in 2018.
Afghanistan made several notable changes to the Test squad, with star spinner Rashid Khan and batter Ibrahim Zadran omitted from the longer-format lineup. Both players, however, have been included in the ODI squad.
The Test squad features maiden call-ups for Nangyal Kharotai, Bilal Sami and Rahmanullah Zadran, while spinner Qais Ahmad returns to the setup.
All-rounder Azmatullah Omarzai and batter Sediqullah Atal retained their places after recent appearances in Afghanistan’s Test matches, including the 2024 fixture against Zimbabwe.
India, meanwhile, will be without fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah for both the Test and ODI series.
