Apple Inc. has officially expanded its sleep apnea notifications and hearing test features to users in India. The new health-focused tools are designed to help users monitor important wellness indicators using Apple devices such as the Apple Watch and AirPods Pro.
The company said these features aim to support early detection of potential health conditions and provide users with easy access to health insights directly from their devices.
Apple Watch Can Detect Signs of Sleep Apnea
Sleep apnea is a serious condition where a person’s breathing repeatedly stops and starts during sleep. Over time, untreated sleep apnea can increase the risk of hypertension, type 2 diabetes, and heart-related diseases.
Apple Watch uses a metric called “Breathing Disturbances” to identify possible signs of sleep apnea. The feature relies on the smartwatch’s accelerometer to detect small wrist movements linked to interruptions in normal breathing patterns during sleep.
The system analyzes breathing disturbance data every 30 days. If the Apple Watch detects consistent signs of moderate to severe sleep apnea, users receive a notification encouraging them to consult a healthcare professional for further evaluation and treatment.
According to Apple, Breathing Disturbances can also help users understand the quality and restfulness of their sleep. However, the company noted that factors such as alcohol consumption, medications, and sleeping position may affect the readings.
Users can review all breathing disturbance data securely within the Health app.
Supported Apple Watch Models
Apple confirmed that sleep apnea notifications are available on several newer Apple Watch models, including:
Apple Watch Series 9
Apple Watch Series 10
Apple Watch Series 11
Apple Watch Ultra 2
Apple Watch Ultra 3
Hearing Test Feature Now Available in India
Apple has also introduced its hearing test feature for users in India. The feature works with AirPods Pro 2 and AirPods Pro 3 paired with compatible iPhone or iPad devices running iOS 18 or iPadOS 18 or later.
Apple described the hearing test as a clinical-grade experience based on pure-tone audiometry, a standard hearing assessment method used in medical settings. Users can complete the test at home in approximately five minutes using their AirPods Pro.
After completing the test, users receive a detailed summary that includes an audiogram, hearing loss measurements for each ear, hearing classifications, and personalized recommendations. Apple stated that all hearing data is securely stored within the Health app.
Apple Expands Additional Health Features Globally
Alongside the India rollout, Apple also announced the launch of Hearing Aid support in Italy and Hypertension Notifications in Taiwan, further expanding its global health feature ecosystem.
